Crores reduced in power bills by LED usage: Piyush Goyal

Use of energy efficient LED bulbs has led to reduction of power bills by Rs 20,000 crore, the Lok Sabha was informed on March 23, 2017.

Power Minister Piyush Goyal also said that the per piece cost of these bulbs has gone down from over Rs 300 to Rs 38.

He said in the first wind power auction conducted by SECI, the non-windy states will get wind power from wind resource rich states.

The state utilities of Bihar, Delhi and Dadar and Nagar Haveli have expressed interest in purchasing wind power, he said. The final price reached after e-reverse auction held in February was Rs 3.46 per unit. “Such low tariffs will encourage the consumers to switch over to cleaner sources of energy,” the minister said in his written reply.
