Universal Robots Showcases ‘Cobots’ at AeroDef India 2018

Universal Robots showcased their products at AeroDef India 2018. The Expo was held at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Goregaon from February 22 – 24, 2018.

Universal Robots are the leading manufacturers of advanced user-friendly and light industrial robotic arms from Denmark. Their latest technological advancement is collaborative robots or ‘Cobots’ were introduced to the international market with a unique intention, which is in line with Industry 4.0. They have a wide market in the USA, Europe and have now expanded operations in India and the South Asian region.

AeroDef India provides an exclusive platform for Indian and International Aerospace and Defence manufacturers to source raw materials, components, sub-assemblies and finished products and subcontracts essential manufacturing processes like forging, machining, moulding, material development, etc. to Indian MSMEs. The event also provides a platform for MSMEs to showcase their capabilities and prowess to OEMs. The Expo will provide an opportunity to strategically plan vendor development programs that will facilitate interaction and business relationships between exhibitors and buyers looking for integrated solutions.

The UR3 table-top robot is the perfect choice for light assembly tasks and jobs that call for absolute precision.  With a 360-degree rotation on all wrist joints and infinite rotation on the end joint, the UR 3 is the most flexible, versatile and collaborative robots on the market today. The slightly bigger UR5 is ideal for automating low-weight processing tasks like picking, placing and testing. The medium-sized robot arm offers one of the fastest payback times in the industry. The UR10, being the largest robot arm in the UR family will automate heavier weight process tasks with payload requirements of up to 10 kg. With a reach radius of 1300 mm the UR10 robot arm is especially suitable for packaging, palletizing, assembly and pick and place where the distance between different operating areas is longer.

Mr Pradeep David, General Manager, Universal Robots, South Asia said, “We are glad to have participated in AeroDef India 2018 as it has provided an extensive platform for Indian and international players of the defence and aerospace manufacturing industry. The Universal Robots’ robotic arms can automate virtually anything; from assembly to painting, picking and placing screw driving, labelling, packing, polishing, gluing, dispensing, deburring, grinding welding, palletizing, machine tending and injection moulding and whatever other tasks you can think of and thus can be implemented virtually in any industry, by any operator without special robotic training.”

He added, “The fact that the robot can be used as an extension of the human arm, cobots can be used for dangerous applications, where the human workforce might be at risk. The collaborative robots can also be incorporated in the aerospace manufacturing industry for precision loading and unloading of aero components and CNC machines – a typical application is dull, dirty and monotonous for humans.”

With well-established names like NASA, BOEING and AIRBUS, Universal Robots hopes to now reach out to various aerospace and defence component manufacturers.
