IET Global Challenge Invites Applications of Budding Young Entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs are being invited to enter a global challenge to invent an on-board device to gauge a vehicle’s weight to ensure it is loaded safely, in a humanitarian relief situation.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Global Challenge encourages young professional engineers (aged 18-35) across the globe to address a real world engineering challenge with their diverse academic and technical exposure.

The challenge is to solve is a real-world engineering challenge faced by humanitarians working in the field. Entrants should focus on the technical feasibility, efficiency, and innovation of the proposed solution, as well as challenge the marketing skills of participants.

Jeremy Watson CBE, IET President, said: “This competition is all about giving young engineers a platform to highlight their innovations. By shining a light on a particular problem we’ve found that engineers think outside of the box and come up with innovative solutions.

Previous winners of this challenge have gone on to see their innovations becoming reality, so this is a great way to make a difference and solve a real-world challenge.

Shekhar Sanyal, Director, and Country head of IET India said, “The IET Global Challenge is an opportunity for all our budding engineering leaders to use their technical knowledge to solve a social problem. This is their opportunity to do good and give back to their society at a global level. The IET has always worked towards the overall development of engineers by creating an ecosystem of change amplified by their engineering knowledge and we are very excited about this global platform. This competition is a part of our multiple efforts to improve technical education in India and thereby being the go-to-source for engineering institutions for matters pertaining to improving quality and global benchmarks”

The Global Challenge is organised by the IET in association with international disaster relief charity RedR UK, which trains aid workers in the skills they need to respond to disasters effectively.
