Heterogeneous Range of Solutions across Industries under Xilinx’s Comprehensive Umbrella

Xilinx is the leader in scalable Industrial IoT platforms by offering heterogeneous embedded processing, I/O flexibility, hardware-based deterministic control, and comprehensive solutions for the lowest total cost of ownership. Xilinx powers intelligent and adaptive assets in harsh environments over industrial lifecycles.

Some Industrial and Healthcare IoT products need all elements of the Xilinx IIoT and HcIoT Solutions Stack. The Xilinx IIoT and HcIoT Solutions Stack is comprised of optimized Xilinx and ecosystem building blocks and solutions used across Industrial and Healthcare IoT platforms.

With a Xilinx-based Industrial or Healthcare IoT system, minimize development time and cost and maximize design reuse on your next Industrial or Healthcare IoT platform by exploring the different elements of the Xilinx IIoT and HcIoT Solutions Stack.

It was a pleasure having a conversation with Chetan Khona, Director of Industrial, Vision, Healthcare & Sciences, Xilinx. Chetan Talked about how Xilinx continues to be customers’ number one choice for so many years, their contribution across industries, especially in the healthcare sector, and their India operations.

Here are the exclusive excerpts:

ELE Times: What would be the “next big thing” that might spur growth in the fields of industrial, vision, healthcare and science? Can you point out the emerging markets or technologies that look promising to you?

In addition to all the things, we are already deeply invested in, we believe there is still significant growth to be had in the areas of IoT, Machine Learning, AI, functional safety, cybersecurity, industrial communications, control and vision. We are focusing new efforts in 2022 around robotics and 5G wireless in industrial and healthcare applications.

ELE Times: How Xilinx has assisted the healthcare sector to operate more efficiently and effectively?

Xilinx has been serving the healthcare industry for decades, almost immediately after our founding in 1984. Medical Imaging has been the traditional strength of Xilinx before we have expanded into additional applications in recent years.

ELE Times: How Xilinx is Building Smarter Vision Systems with Xilinx SoCs and FPGAs?

Xilinx is one of the most popular choices in the field of machine vision and has been growing rapidly in security, retail, smart cities, etc. Kria SOMs enable users to build a smarter vision system in under 1 hour out of the box, enabled by the app store. For Xilinx customers not using Kria SOMs, we see the most popular applications are sensor interface, image signal processing (ISP), Vision AI Inference and sending it out onto the network or to a display.

ELE Times: As Xilinx enjoys a global reputation, what are the greatest challenges that your team faces in serving a worldwide customer base?

Customers often compliment Xilinx on our local technical support resources as being a differentiator and a competitive advantage for us. We have found the right balance of centralized and local resources to make our customers successful.

Offering multiple design entry modes such as C++, Python, ROS, OpenCL, etc. is strategic for our business because depending on our customer needs and use cases, not as many university graduates have traditional FPGA design knowledge about VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and Verilog.

ELE Times: How important is the Indian market for Xilinx’s ISM business, looking at the fact that the Indian government’s initiative has attracted the world’s attention as the next big manufacturing hub. How does Xilinx’s ISM comply with the changing scenario?

The ISM business in India is very strategic and forward-looking for us. Some of the mega infrastructure investments planned by the government of India in the areas such as smart cities have a direct correlation to what Xilinx is doing. We are working with several customers in India involved in applications like Automated Toll Management on National Highways, Crime Detection, Social Distancing detection, Industry 4.0 etc.
