PM Modi Launches Four New Digital Initiatives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Digital India Week 2022 exhibition launching four new digital initiatives and a cohort of institutions supported under the Chip to Startup (C2S) programme.

The prime minister, in the presence of Railway, IT and communications minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for IT, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, launched four new initiatives – Digital India Bhashini, Digital India GENESIS, India stack. global, and MyScheme, in a bid to enhance the accessibility of technology and streamline service delivery.

The Digital India Bhashini scheme will enable easy access to the internet and digital services in Indian languages, including voice-based access, and help the creation of content in Indian languages, by leveraging language-based machine learning models. This will require the creation of multilingual datasets that will be built through a crowdsourced exercise called BhashaDaan.

The Prime Minister also announced the cohort of 30 institutions that will be supported under the Chip to Startup (C2S) programme, under the India Semiconductor Mission. The institutions will be empowered to train 85,000 specialised manpower in semiconductor design at bachelor’s, master’s and research levels. The C2S scheme aims to facilitate 175 unique semiconductor designs, 30 IP cores, 20 systems and 25 startups.

The programme will also offer mentors at the organisational level and make available state-of-the-art facilities for chip design.

The institutes selected in the cohort include NIT Manipur, India Institute of Technology Design and Manufacturing, Andhra Pradesh, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, among others.
