Indian Navy Receives Military-Grade Underwater ROV Systems from EyeROV

Indigenous underwater robotics strengthens inspection, reconnaissance and maritime infrastructure-support capabilities.

EyeROV, a deep-tech company in Kochi, has delivered two indigenous military-grade ROVs, remotely operated underwater vehicles, to the Indian Navy. As per a report published in 9th October, the delivery is a milestone for Indian underwater robotics ecosystem and maritime support capabilities. The underwater ROVs are remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) that have a camera, lights, thrusters, and optional mission-specific sensors and systems. These are remotely operated underwater vehicles that enable inspection of underwater structures, remote investigation of locations that are otherwise dangerous to human divers, and a variety of search missions depending on their configurations.

EyeROV’s platform TROUT is for underwater observation and inspection. The technology is relevant to the navy as underwater inspection can pinpoint damage, conduct underwater inspections and maintenance, and support the work of divers without them having to perform all of the work directly. Military-grade equipment can offer higher environmental protection, reliable control links and integrated special-purpose services when compared to commercial inspection equipment. The Indo-Russian equipment aligns with India’s larger efforts to develop a wide range of defence technology across the air, land, sea, and underwater domains. Indigenously developed systems increase access to technical support, although long-term performance depends on reliability, operator training, maintenance, and integration with existing naval practices.

The project also highlights the entry of Indian deep-tech firms into niche defence markets traditionally dominated by international incumbent vendors. As demands for maritime security are likely to increase, underwater robotics could prove to be a situational awareness. The operational use and set-up of the delivered systems have not been explicitly discussed.
