Mouser Electronics, Inc., the industry’s leading New Product Introduction (NPI) distributor with the widest selection of semiconductors and electronic components, is now shipping the Explorer 16/32 development board from Microchip Technology. This low-cost modular development system is a flexible tool that allows engineers to evaluate Microchip’s 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers. The board comes with an integrated programmer/debugger and several new features that address the latest embedded systems design needs.

The Microchip Explorer 16/32 development board, available from Mouser Electronics, serves as a platform for customers to evaluate the 16-bit PIC24, dsPIC, and PIC32 families of devices through Processor Plug-In-Modules (PIMs) for easy device swapping. The board features a MikroElectronika mikroBUS interface, which enables developers to use click boards to easily add new functionalities for sensor, wireless, and electromechanical applications. The board also supports an integrated USB for both power and communication, eliminating the need for an external power adapter and communication accessory. The board integrates a PICkit-On-Board (PKOB) programmer and supports the Microchip’s MPLAB development environment as well as MPLAB In-Circuit Debugger (ICD) 3 and MPLAB REAL ICE real-time emulation and debug tools, enabling faster evaluation and prototyping of applications.

The Explorer 16/32 development board is backwards compatible with the popular Explorer 16 board which allows users to continue using existing code, libraries, prototypes, PIMs, and PICtail Plus daughter cards interfaced via a side PICtail Plus connector. An optional PICtail Plus Expansion Board is also available from Mouser to extend the Explorer 16/32 development board with vertical PICtail Plus application daughter cards. The expansion board also offers additional mikroBUS interfaces and a small prototyping area.
