MES Expo to portray brand new products from connected mobility to Rail 4.0

What impact is increasing electrification in the transport sector having on the stability of the network? From the viewpoint of the German electrical industry, where are the critical points in the efforts to achieve a sustainable reduction in CO2 emissions from transport? What concrete solutions can the industry offer? As an event that encompasses all kinds of transport systems, the MES Expo has set itself the task of taking an overall view of the requirements imposed by mobility, making it the first platform to combine the different areas of mobility, i.e. rail, road freight vehicles and automobiles. It is being organised by Messe Berlin, and its non-commercial sponsors are the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association ZVEI, the German Railway Industry Association VDB and the German Transport Forum DVF.

The industrial trade fair is augmented by a technical supporting programme, where vehicle manufacturers such as Siemens Mobility and transport companies including Deutsche Bahn will be outlining their market requirements.

Under the slogan ‘The electrical industry as the enabler of a mobile transformation’, the Dialog Forum will address a wide range of topics. The ZVEI, for example, will be presenting the findings of a report entitled ‘Vision of the future power network’, which the association has compiled in collaboration with the business consultancy PwC, Fraunhofer IOSB and TrendOne. Siemens Mobility will be investigating what value can be added to the electrification of road freight through the use of trucks operating with overhead power lines. The paper from Bombardier Transportation deals with the battery-powered electric multiple unit TALENT 3, which is currently undergoing certification. Toyota Motor Europe is presenting solutions for sustainable mobility. Other topics include the charging infrastructure for electro-mobility in the public sphere (NOW GmbH) and the demands imposed on modern building infrastructure in order to achieve clean mobility (hagergroup).

The VDB is concentrating all its efforts on the subject of Rail 4.0: The German Railway Industry Association is presenting innovations for digital and intermodal mobility of the future. The German Transport Forum will explain why digitalisation in connected mobility and climate protection will lead to improvements in transport.

Another partner contributing to the supporting programme is the National Platform for the Future of Mobility (NPM), which is examining the challenges that future mobility will present in Germany from the viewpoint of industrial standards and certification. The representatives of politics and business that are also participating in this platform will also be presenting their work and will engage in discussions with the experts and specialists attending this event.

In addition to the Dialogue Forum the programme will also feature compact, high-quality papers at the Speakers’ Corner, which will be used by exhibitors not only to present their products and services but also to address issues of current concern to the industry.
