Introducing the R-Car consortium proactive partner program to accelerate automotive mobility innovation

Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced the launch of its R-Car Consortium Proactive Partner Program. The program adds a new level to Renesas’ current R-Car Consortium, enabling customers to quickly identify and engage with the partners whose solutions will help them accelerate their innovation for the future mobility market.

The Proactive Partner Program’s open platform approach creates a flexible and diverse development environment for system developers. Access to advanced technologies and solutions enable users to address and overcome their unique development challenges. A global automotive semiconductor leader, Renesas has a long history delivering reliable and innovative automotive solutions for a wide range of systems.

“The era of CASE – Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric – is transforming the automotive industry with a technology revolution for self-driving cars and connected systems, and calls to accelerate automotive innovation,” said Naoki Yoshida, Vice President of Renesas’ Automotive Technical Customer Engagement Business Division. “Collaboration is the key to this transformation, and our Proactive Partner Program delivers a certified and trusted ecosystem that enables customers to cut through information overload to select the partners and solutions that will set them up for success.”

In 2005, Renesas established the R-Car Consortium as an open platform environment for the automotive market. The consortium currently hosts 252 partner members, allowing system developers to further reduce the number of development steps and costs required for their application development in vehicles ranging from entry to premium class. However, with the increasing volume of information, there were issues such as being unable to find the information required, or which partner would be optimal for system verification becoming unclear.

In order to further expand R-Car Consortium activities, Renesas certified 55 Proactive Partner companies in order for Renesas to collaborate more strategically. The 55 partners were chosen based on their ability to provide three values: “open” (the provision of flexible and diverse development environment using open systems), “innovative” (the ability to provide advanced technologies and solutions that resolve user problems), and “trusted” (the ability to make highly reliable system proposals based on the strength of a proven track record in the automotive business). Customers can access the program to easily vet and determine the optimal partners and solutions best suited to their application, devices, or needs and issues through a search system from the certified companies. This supports our users in their efforts to jump-start PoC (Proof of Concept) or system development, accelerating time to market for new product introduction.

Renesas will continue expanding the R-Car ecosystem with new solution partners to help customers speed the development of revolutionary products.
