Hitachi’s next generation SVOS released

hitachilogoHitachi Data Systems has announced the next generation of its Storage Virtualisation Operating System, SVOS 7.0, featuring enhanced QoS, new adaptive data reduction and support for all-flash cloud tiering.

Available on all Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) arrays, including new, enterprise VSP systems, SVOS 7.0 is designed to help businesses deliver better customer experiences and return on investments.

In today’s digital economy, it is critical that customers receive information in real-time and that businesses recognise maximum cost-efficiency from their operations. To meet these needs, SVOS 7 has been engineered with an improved flash-aware IO stack and:

  • Quality of Service (QoS): Prevents workloads from monopolising bandwidth and dedicates data reduction services to workloads for more predictable latency than other all-flash arrays.
  • Adaptive data reduction: Provides deduplication and compression within SVOS for 2:1, 5:1 or greater capacity savings. SVOS 7 can offload compression to FMDs to lower latency and scale data reduction beyond other all-flash arrays.
  • All-flash cloud tiering: Provides transparent file migration to private or public cloud storage for more predictable costs and faster transitions to all-flash.

SVOS 7.0 is available on all new and existing VSP G series and F series systems. Existing customers can take advantage of SVOS 7.0 and its deduplication and compression features through a non-disruptive upgrade.

With this release, HDS is also upgrading its enterprise VSP line. The all-flash VSP F series line is expanding to include the all-flash VSP F1500. Built on new, high density Flash Module (FMD) technology with capacities of up to 14TB per device, the new VSP F1500 delivers over 4.8M IOPS and up to 40PB of effective flash capacity. Delivering superior price/performance value, the VSP F1500 is designed for enterprise customers looking to drive massive IT consolidation across block, file and mainframe operations.

For businesses looking to transition to all-flash over time, HDS offers the new VSP G1500. The VSP G1500 offers 4.8M IOPS, a 20 per cent improvement over the current VSP G1000, and runs individual workloads up to 40 per cent faster. Existing VSP G1000 customers can upgrade to the G1500 via data in place, non-disruptive migration. This simplifies the transition to the more powerful G1500 platform and reinforces the HDS commitment investment protection.

In conjunction with the release of SVOS 7 and the enhanced VSP line up HDS is upgrading its management stack to simplify data management. New versions of Hitachi Storage Advisor, Automation Director and Infrastructure Analytics Advisor software enable customers to more easily implement new SVOS 7 functions and reduce process complexity.
