New Yorker Electronics Introduces Vishay’s microBRICK, Industry’s Smallest Buck Regulator Module

In a groundbreaking move, New Yorker Electronics has unveiled Vishay’s microBRICK synchronous buck regulator module, SiC931, claiming the title of the industry’s smallest buck regulator module. With a compact design measuring only 10.6mm x 6.5mm x 3mm, the module boasts a wide input voltage range, ranging from 4.5V to 60V.

    Compact and Efficient Design:

Compared to alternative solutions, the microBRICK regulator modules are up to 69% smaller, housing two MOSFETs, an inductor, and a controller within each module. This design minimizes the need for external components, simplifying configuration and loop compensation and reducing design complexity and time to market. The compact size enhances power density, making it seamlessly integrated into data centers, telecom networks, and industrial applications. It efficiently delivers power to FPGAs, ASICs, and SoC core power supplies.

    High Efficiency and Versatility:

The microBRICK regulators from Vishay Siliconix achieve up to 97% peak efficiencies, thanks to controllers consuming minimal quiescent current. The modules offer versatility with configurable wide input voltage ranges, adjustable output voltages as low as 0.3V, and four programmable switching frequencies. The SiC931 model stands out with its flexible soft start and PMBus 1.3 compliance.

    Applications Across Industries:

These regulator modules find applications across a spectrum of industries, including servers, cloud computing, high-performance computing, desktop computers, industrial automation, motor drives, tools, surveillance systems, consumer electronics, and 5G telecom equipment. The SiC931 model features forced continuous conduction and power-saving modes, adjusting the switching frequency proportionally to load conditions for optimal efficiency at light loads without a minimum switching frequency limitation.

    Advanced Features and Protection:

Adopting a constant on-time (COT) architecture, these regulators deliver ultrafast transient response with minimal output capacitance and tight ripple regulation at light loads. The architecture ensures loop stability regardless of the output capacitor type, accommodating low ESR ceramic capacitors. The modules come equipped with a robust protection feature set, including output overvoltage (OVP) and undervoltage protection (UVP), cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP) with auto-retry, over-temperature protection (OTP), and a power suitable flag, ensuring reliable operation in various conditions.

With the introduction of Vishay’s microBRICK, New Yorker Electronics continues to push the boundaries of innovation, providing compact, efficient, and versatile solutions for the ever-evolving demands of the electronics industry.
