Unveiling new voice assistant experience for audio processing

MediaTek announced its MT8516, the highly integrated application processing platform for cloud-connected voice assistant devices, will power the new Djingo Speaker developed for Orange. The mini speaker was developed in collaboration with Arcadyan as the manufacturer and SoftAtHome as the software integrator. As the No. 1 chipset maker for voice assistant devices, this design win continues MediaTek’s legacy powering the next wave of connected devices.

The MT8516 is an integrated application platform with diverse interfaces and connectivity capabilities for advanced audio and microphone processing. It is designed for cloud-supported voice assistant devices, Google Cast for Audio and products integrated with MediaTek’s PowerAQ acoustic tuning tool. Thanks to the MT8516’s full set of features, the Djingo virtual assistant supports advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing, which enables the new mini speaker to offer a conversational interface to customers.

“MediaTek’s chipsets maximize performance and power efficiency to bring the latest AI capabilities to a wide variety of voice assistant devices, including the new Djingo Speaker,” said Jerry Yu, MediaTek Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Intelligent Devices Business Group. MT8516 is enabling our customers to provide a seamless virtual assistant experience no matter the task.”

Due to its design simplicity, the MT8516 reduces time to market while minimizing platform size, enabling smaller, more efficient product designs. MediaTek’s PowerAQ tool provides an easy graphical user interface for signal flow design and audio parameter tuning, removing the need for an additional demand-side platform.

“Our goal through the voice assistant Djingo is to provide to our customers an unmatchable experience with Orange services and the services of our partners,” said Jean-Pierre Combe, project director at Orange. “Our collaboration with MediaTek and the integration of its MT8516 enables our customers to more easily use Orange TV, smart home, telephone services and much more through Djingo.”

The MT8516 platform has the industry’s most advanced integration with both Wi-Fi (2.4GHz, 802.11 bgn) and Bluetooth, with radio frequency (RF) built in, on a single chip. MT8516 integrates a quad-core, 64-bit Arm Cortex-A35 MPCore operating at up to 1.3 GHz. In addition to raw NAND support, it offers flexible memory support including LPDDR2, LPDDR3, DDR3, DDR3L and DDR4 to accommodate unique platform needs.
