Variscite Expands Manufacturing Capacity With Additional Production Line

Added production capacity will meet forecasted demand for existing and new SoM products, optimizing lead times of the company’s wide product portfolio

Variscite, a leading worldwide System on Module (SoM) designer, developer and manufacturer, announced today the launch of its newest production line at the company’s production facility. By increasing its manufacturing capacity, Variscite continues to serve its customers with industry-leading product delivery times and meet the steadily increasing demand of the company’s products. The added production line will also help to support the expected additional demand for its two newest SoMs based on Texas Instruments’ AM62x and NXP’s i.MX93, which offer a wide feature-set at a very attractive price.

“Even during challenging years due to a global pandemic and economic uncertainty, Variscite has added new production lines to help our customers meet their own product development timelines,” said Ofer Austerlitz, VP Business Development and Sales of Variscite. “This additional production line not only increases our current production capacity, it also allows us to remain flexible and robust in an uncertain market environment with a mission to best support our customers.”

Starting at only $33, the new VAR-SOM-AM62, powered by TI’s AM62x, is ideal for cost-sensitive embedded products that require low power, high performance and a GPU. The VAR-SOM-AM62 runs on the 1.4 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A53 AM625x with 400MHz Cortex-M4F and additional 333 MHz PRU real-time co-processors. It offers rich connectivity options like a camera interface, dual LVDS display, certified dual-band Wi-Fi, BT/BLE 5.2, 3x CAN bus, dual USB, and dual GbE.

Variscite’s new VAR-SOM-MX93 for energy-efficient machine learning edge devices includes a rich set of features for markets like industrial, IoT, and smart devices at an attractive price point, starting at only $39. Powered by the 1.7GHz Dual Cortex-A55 NXP i.MX93 processor, the industry’s first implementation of the Arm neural processing unit (NPU), Ethos-U65 microNPU, VAR-SOM-MX93 accelerates ML workloads and offers an energy-flex architecture for efficient processing. The SoM offers an additional 250MHz Cortex-M33 real-time co-processor, built-in security, and a wide range of interfaces such as dual CAN bus, dual GbE, audio in/out, camera inputs, certified dual-band Wi-Fi, BT/BLE, 2x USB, and several display outputs.

Both SoMs are compatible with the VAR-SOM Pin2Pin product family, allowing Variscite’s customers to easy scale at any point of the product lifecycle while using the same carrier board for all platforms. The Pin2Pin family provides an extended lifespan, reduced development time, costs, and risks as well as advanced scalability options from entry-level i.MX6UL modules, through the iMX6 and i.MX 8M families, up to the high-performance i.MX 8X and i.MX 8QuadMax modules.
