Indian Army Seeking Active Protection Systems for its T-90 Tanks

The Indian Army has invited companies to make offers for the supply of 818 active defense systems for its T-90S/SK main battle tanks. The Army made clear in the document that 50% of the planning and development of the systems must be with local industries, and prospective vendors will be permitted “to enter into arrangements” with foreign companies for the development of the equipment.

The Janes website wrote that the Indian specifications require the defense systems to include capabilities of “soft kill” and “hard kill”, with “soft kill” including smoke discharge, infrared jamming equipment as well as audio-visual warnings when the tank is attacked. The “hard kill” includes anti-tank munitions such as rocket-propelled grenades, anti-tank guided missiles, and explosive anti-tank explosive rounds. It is desirable for the systems to include defense against kinetic energy munitions.
