Arrow-Built BeagleBone Black Board for Industrial Applications

Arrow 1Arrow Electronics has launched an industrial version of BeagleBone Black, the low-cost, community-supported development board popular with developers, makers and hobbyists. The Arrow BeagleBone Black Industrial runs on the same open-source software as the popular original commercial temperature-grade board, but it is designed to withstand the harsher demands of industrial environments.

“Only 15 percent of industrial equipment is connected today, and there are tremendous opportunities as the industrial internet of things begins to transition from hype to reality,” said Murdoch Fitzgerald, vice president of supplier marketing for Arrow Electronics. “The Arrow BeagleBone Black Industrial board is an ideal evaluation platform to accelerate to proof-of-concept development from factory automation to robotic applications.”

Like its commercial predecessor, the Arrow BeagleBone Black Industrial enables physical computing on networked-enabled devices through a simple, standardized, out-of-box experience. It is designed to operate in temperatures from -40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius. The low-cost, fan-less single-board computer is based on low-power Texas Instruments processors and features the ARM Cortex-A series core.

The Arrow BeagleBone Black Industrial is FCC certified, and it has been deemed compatible with other BeagleBone products by beagleboard.org, the nonprofit organization that spearheads efforts to educate on the design and use of open-source software and hardware in embedded computing.

Arrow collaborated with Embedded Planet on the board’s design and with LS Research on securing FCC certification.

The Arrow BeagleBone Black Industrial is available for immediate shipping on Arrow.com
