IT Minister sat with the Top Electronics Manufacturers

Top executives from the electronics manufacturing industry have met with the new Electronics & IT minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar and shared the vision of making India a global manufacturing hub by achieving a production output worth $400 billion by 2025.

Chandrasekhar, who joined PM Narendra Modi’s cabinet this month as the union minister of State for Electronics and IT, discussed ways to make India a globally competitive manufacturing power, he said in a tweet.

“Being a technocrat himself, the minister shares the vision of the industry to promote local manufacturing of electronics goods by overcoming our disabilities vis-a-vis other countries and enhance India’ participation in the global value chain,” said a source related to the discussion.

Several milestones achieved by electronics players including the progress of production-linked incentive schemes were discussed during the brief introductory session, he added.

The National Policy on Electronics 2019 envisages production of $400 billion (approximately Rs 26 lakh crore) by 2025. This will include targeted production of 1 billion mobile handsets by 2025, valued at $190 billion (or Rs 13,00,000 crore), including 600 million mobile handsets valued at $110 billion (or Rs 7 lakh crore) for export.

The meeting was also attended by joint secretary, MeitY, Saurabh Gaur and leaders of top Indian manufacturers including Sunil Vachani, executive chairman, Dixon Technologies, Hari Om Rai, chairman, Lava International and Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman, India Cellular & Electronics Association.
