Murata – Efficient DC-DC converter designed for rough service or industrial applications

A new development effort for industrial class DC-DC half brick converter modules is available from Murata Power Solutions. The ICH series of industrial grade, isolated DC-DC converters provide highly efficient, baseplate-cooled power from 360W up to 500W from an industry-standard half-brick package measuring 61mm x 64mm x 13.2mm. The series was designed for rough service or industrial applications and incorporates features such as a wide 4:1 input voltage range, from 9VDC to 36VDC, and a specially designed package/baseplate that allows conduction cooling for improved thermal performance including closed-box applications. These highly efficient converters, typically up to 95.7% for the 500W unit, are available in three single-output models providing regulated 12VDC, 24VDC or 28VDC.

The electrical and mechanical design allows the ICH series to deliver the full power rating with a baseplate temperature of -40C to +105C without derating. In addition, the ICH is designed to meet the environmental stress limits for shock and vibration specified in MIL–STD810G throughout its service life.

The series achieves its high performance by incorporating proprietary circuit architectures, advanced packaging, and thermal design advances. The outputs are fully isolated from the input supply, allowing flexibility for various grounding requirements or for creating positive or negative outputs. Galvanic input to output isolation rated at 2250VDC, incorporating a Basic insulation system, are standard across all models. The series has been designed to meet EN60950, UL/CSA safety requirements for embedded power modules.

The industry standard half-brick enclosed package has been specially designed to meet the demands of rugged operating environments and complies with the MIL-STD-810G standard for functional shock and vibration. Typical applications include 12V or 24V battery systems, powering motor drive systems, emergency vehicle electronics, smart grid and heavy-duty truck solutions.

All models come with a positive logic remote On/Off control as the standard configuration, along with full protection features including input transient to 50VDC, over temperature shutdown, output over current, and input under voltage lockout.
