Apple 3nm M3 Chipsets could Enter Production by Q4 2022

TSMC could start producing the 3nm M3 chipsets for MacBooks by the fourth quarter of 2022, says a report, citing industry sources. So far, the reports about the M2 chipset series have been doing the rounds and now one concerning the M3 chipsets has surfaced.

The M1 chipset is built using a 5nm technology, the M2 is expected to be a 4nm one, and in the same fashion, the M3 is expected to feature a 3nm process. The new M1 chipsets for MacBooks–the M1 Pro and M1 Max- were launched this year, the ‘M2’ and ‘M2 Pro’ chipsets are slated for launch in 2022 and 2023 respectively, with the M2 chip having the codename Staten, while the M2 Pro chip having Rhodes as the codename. Considering this, if we were to believe, things do not add up. Why would Apple try to bring two generations of Mac chipsets in the same year? The likely conclusion is that the M3 chip could be the M2 Pro.

A previous report by The Information claimed that the M3 chipsets could come with a 40-core CPU which is a leap theoretically as the M1 chipset comes with an 8-core CPU while the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets have 10 cores. Earlier rumors said that Apple may bring the M3 chipsets to Macs and A17 Bionic SoC to the iPhone 15 in 2023. So, with all these reports and rumors, it looks like we could hang our hats on a 4nm chipset for Mac which is coming next year.
