    Automobile, electronics and hardware ecosystem emerging in AP: Chandrababu Naidu

    The proliferation of automobile, electronics and hardware-related industries in Andhra Pradesh will soon ensure the creation of a sustainable ecosystem in the State, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced.

    At the Xiaomi supplier investment summit in Tirupati, Mr. Naidu held consultations with 38 global suppliers of the mobile phone major Xiaomi India, where he assured the participants of all support from the State in the form of land, water, electricity and the best manpower reported The Hindu. The summit is meant to explain the investment opportunities available in this part of the State to the company’s suppliers and throw light on the government’s proactive initiatives, subsidies etc to lure investments. The summit is expected to add a lucrative investment of USD 2.5 billion and create 50000 jobs in the vicinity.

    Speaking to the media after the discussions, Mr. Naidu announced that the companies were positively considering huge investment in the region between Tirupati and Sri City, where it has multiple manufacturing units. He saw the emergence of Tirupati-Nellore-Chennai as an industrial hub, especially for the electronics, hardware and automobile-related products.

    Xiaomi, through its partner Foxconn had already provided 15,000 jobs for women in its Sri City plants, while other mobile companies had employed 20,000 people, mostly women.

    “The government is contemplating to provide 50 acres of land or constructed space, skilled labour, timely incentives and even dormitory accommodation for the staff members. Our intention is to get more local jobs”, Mr. Naidu said to The Hindu. Indicating the growing preference from companies for Rayalaseema region, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the backward region would benefit in the long run.

    Xiaomi’s Global Vice-President Manu Jain, who oversees India operations, reiterated the company’s commitment towards ‘Make in India’ and assured to invest more in Andhra Pradesh, in view of the congenial working atmosphere here. “As a company with 27% market share in India, and 57% in online market alone, Xiaomi looks forward to procure components like touch panels, display, camera, battery etc from local producers”, Mr. Jain said, while announcing to offer 100% locally manufactured phones in the near future.

    Ministers Nara Lokesh (Information Technology), N. Amarnatha Reddy (Industries) and Member of Parliament (Chittoor) N. Sivaprasad were part of the State delegation.
