Littelfuse wins Awards in North America and Asia for High Current 881 Series SMD Fuse

Littelfuse, Inc., announced that it has been honored with the 2017 Product of the Year Award from the editors of an electronics magazine. Littelfuse has also been awarded the 2017 Annual Products Award. The winning product for both awards, the 881 Series High Current Surface Mount Fuse, was designed for use in applications that require both a compact footprint and protection for high current circuits.

“Circuit boards with high current demands, like blade servers, backplanes, and high-wattage power supplies, create challenges for developers incorporating circuit-protecting fuses. To use compact, surface-mount devices required the paralleling of multiple lower-current fuses or the use of larger, overcapacity industrial devices,” said Richard Quinnell, editor in chief of the magazine. “The 881 series of fuses corrects the situation, offering ratings up to 100 A in a 12.5 x 10 x 6.8-mm surface-mount device (SMD).”

The Product of the Year Award recognizes innovations introduced during the preceding year that offer a significant advancement in a technology or its application, innovative design, or a substantial achievement in price/performance. Winners are selected after a review of thousands of products.

Daniel Wang, Director, Global Product Management, Electronics Business Unit at Littelfuse, noted, “The 881 Series Fuse makes it possible to use a single fuse for higher current applications where board space is extremely limited. It helps designers conserve board space by replacing multiple parallel lower-rated fuses, lowering the total number of parts on the PCB.”

The 881 Series Fuse enhances power efficiency, optimizes thermal performance, and minimizes power loss due to its minimal voltage drop and low temperature rise. Its robust design and operating range from -55°C to 100°C enhances reliability and reduce susceptibility to temperature cycling and vibration effects.
