Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson Thursday launched Radio 6626, a three-sector dual-band radio to help telcos increase their Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) 5G frequency capacity.
The new addition to Ericsson’s radio portfolio will provide multi-standard and multi-band coverage, in addition to bringing down costs and reducing footprint, the gear maker said.
Features -wise, the three-sector dual-band Radio 6626 combines two frequencies and six ports in one unit, enabling one radio to power all three sectors on the tower.
The 6T6R radio supports 2G to 5G mobile standards and is available on 900MHz and 800MHz dual-band versions as well as 1800MHz and 2100MHz dual-band. It is powered by Ericsson Silicon and can output 720W of power, according to the company.
Separately, Ericsson has also launched the Voltage Booster 6640, to minimize new cabling requirements which are claimed to expand the power capacity to the radios by up to 50% through existing cables.
The end-to-end solution further includes Baseband 6631 for providing RAN Compute pathway for towers that run multiple technologies; and microwave-based MINI-LINK 6352, which adds up to 10Gbps with E-band, aggregating with existing microwave radios.
”Our new triple-sector, dual-band radio offers an opportunity for communications service providers to significantly reduce radio footprint and installation time needed on-site, while at the same time lowering total power consumption by up to 50 percent,” said David Hammarwall, Head of Product Line Radio, Ericsson.
