MIT’s ‘LaserFactory’ assembles drone without human intervention

The drones are the present and future of warfare. With its help, the governments of the world will be able to shape the future of war.

Every day is new technologies are being used to enhance its capabilities. Recently, a new system has been developed called ‘LaserFactory’, capable of printing functional, custom-made devices without human intervention. It was used to compose a fully-functional drone.

The system’s software toolkit assists design devices while coordinating with its hardware platform to manufacture. LaserFactory was developed by a group from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s and Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL).

The software can be used to create print traces, structural geometry and assemble electronic components like actuators and sensors. The researchers are hoping to enhance the resolution and quality of the circuit traces, which would allow for denser and more complex electronics.
