Survey Reveals Chipset Significance: 77% of Indian Smart Device Users Prioritize Performance

In a recent consumer survey conducted by Counterpoint Research, it was found that a substantial 77% of smart device users in India consider chipset capabilities as a pivotal factor influencing their device experience. The survey aimed to gauge the awareness and importance of chipsets among consumers in India, a market that ranks second globally for smartphones and is witnessing rapid growth in various smart devices.

As the Indian smartphone market matures, consumers are increasingly well-informed about their smart devices, making informed decisions crucial for their daily activities. Chipsets, recognized as key differentiating factors in smart devices, play a crucial role in shaping user experiences.

The survey delved into the significance of chipsets across various smart devices, including smartphones, earphones/TWS, smart TVs, and laptops. Advanced features found in current smart devices owe their capabilities to the evolution of underlying chipsets, influencing user experiences and aiding Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in setting their offerings apart, especially in the era of transitioning to next-generation 5G networks.
Performance emerged as the most crucial feature, with 76% of respondents highlighting its importance, followed by graphics and gaming capabilities (66%), and 5G connectivity (62%).

Regarding chipset brands, the survey indicated that 61% of respondents were aware of MediaTek’s chipsets across smart devices in India. MediaTek, holding a leadership position in smartphones and extending its reach into categories like smart TVs and smart speakers, claimed the title of the world’s top smartphone chipset brand in Q3 2023 with a 31% market share, as per Counterpoint’s latest Global smartphone AP Shipments.

Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint, emphasized the growing role of chipsets in the tech ecosystem. He noted, “For any electronics device, we believe that personalized experiences will be the real differentiator for consumers going forward. This means deeper integration of advanced technologies leveraging artificial intelligence for a seamless, reliable and personalized experience with a relentless focus on ultra-fast connectivity. Therefore, companies like MediaTek are well positioned in this space as the tech industry shifts its focus from smart connected devices to smartly connected devices.”
