Wind River Integrates Arynga’s OTA Software into Its Portfolio

Bangalore – April 5, 2016 – Wind River, a world leader in delivering software for the Internet of Things (IoT), announced it has added the Arynga software product line to its automotive portfolio. Arynga provides over-the-air (OTA) update software for automotive solutions, including both software-over-the-air (SOTA) and firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) update technologies. Arynga’s software and development team are now part of Wind River.

Wind River is integrating, marketing, and further innovating upon Arynga’s OTA technologies, continuing to support current Arynga customers. With this addition, Wind River is extending its automotive lifecycle capabilities with Arynga’s breakthrough SOTA/FOTA technologies. The new OTA offerings will help the industry continue to advance the connected car and autonomous driving, improve automotive security, reduce software-related costs, and further accelerate IoT growth across other markets as well.

OTA software update capabilities have the potential to make the pre- and post- deployment process easier and enhance the driver experience well after a car has rolled off the factory floor. Carmakers often face having to update hundreds of vehicles in a fleet test with several software revision cycles during the course of the development process. With OTA capabilities, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) can manage software in the car throughout its development lifecycle, keeping it updated with the latest revisions. More importantly, post-deployment, OTA capabilities can significantly reduce costs associated with software-related warranty and recall for OEMs. Additionally, they can create further opportunities to increase the value of deployed vehicles by continuously improving the vehicle and brand experience via new software, opening the potential for new revenue streams not previously possible.

“The combination of Arynga software and Wind River’s decades of embedded software leadership and expertise in mission-critical industries will give customers a jump-start toward a software transformation,” said Marques McCammon, general manager of connected vehicle solutions at Wind River. “OTA gives OEMs a lifecycle platform to provide efficient updates and deliver content to cars, and as IoT continues to grow, to any embedded device. The addition of Arynga’s technologies will significantly differentiate and expand the value proposition of our Wind River Helix Chassis platforms and offerings.”

“Beyond the near-term application of Arynga’s products for automotive, its technology will also be critical to IoT opportunities across numerous vertical industries. With this addition, coupled with our IoT portfolio, Wind River will become a leader in over-the-air updates for all manner of smart, connected devices,” said Michael Krutz, chief product officer at Wind River.
