AI can Plunge India to the Epiphany of Digital Space

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to leapfrog India to its true potential of being a world leader in the digital space, said Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and Law & Justice.

“There is a need for taking a multi-stakeholder approach to developing the ecosystem for AI in India, and we will help facilitate interactions among the industry, government and academia and will come up with a robust legal framework for the same,” Prasad said at a workshop.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Thursday, had organised a day- long workshop on AI and its applications for good governance, where the Minister spoke in length.

Acknowledging the work that has already been done in the field by the US and China, Prasad said that India’s model of uptake and scale-up of AI will be one that is indigenous to India and is built on the principle of augmenting intelligence and not the displacement of jobs.

He said the government will help in training and skilling people so that they are able to adapt, adopt and thrive in the dynamically changing society.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the industry such as Nasscom, Microsoft, Google, IBM, Accenture and Nvidia, academia from Carnegie Mellon University, IIT Karagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Patna and IIIT Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, MeitY on Friday has launched Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative in association with National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and industry partners.

The Cyber Surakshit Bharat aims to conduct a series of training programmes in the next six months across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
