Experience Automotive HMI designs by Microchip’s maXTouch touchscreen controllers

A new family of maXTouch touchscreen controllers is now available from Microchip Technology Inc., a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions. The MXT1665T-A family of automotive qualified touchscreen controllers is designed for large screen automotive human machine interface (HMI) designs. The technology brings the user experience of multi-touch HMI, such as on a mobile phone, to car drivers and passengers in screen sizes from eight to 15 inches.

MXT1665T-A family carries Microchip’s adaptive touch technology that utilises self-capacitive touch as well as mutual capacitive touch scanning. This combination provides the multi-touch experience even with thick cover lenses, thick gloves or in the presence of moisture and water. The product family is fully AEC Q100 qualified to address all the unique needs of automotive system designs.

The family complements the very successful MXT641T-A family of products. It shares many of the same features developed for the automotive industry, but is able to address larger screen sizes over 10 inches. The MXT1665T-A family supports screen sizes from eight to 15 inches and also supports smaller multi-finger pinch separation.

“With the addition of the MXT1665T Family, Microchip offers full scalability to customers, enabling them to design multiple platforms from small to large display sizes with the same quality user experience and interface,” said Fanie Duvenhage, vice president of Microchip’s touch division. “Consumers are demanding capacitive touch solutions in their vehicles. Microchip is the only provider of touchscreen controllers offering a large growing portfolio of automotive qualified products with a vast support infrastructure throughout the world.”

By having a large range of screen size options within Microchip’s touchscreen controller families, companies are more scalable. It will ultimately shorten design time, and lower system and development cost.

The MXT1665T-A family consists of three parts that are all available now, the MXT1665T-A supports 1664 touch node sensors, the MXT1189-A supports 1188 touch node sensors and the MXT799T-A with 798 touch node sensors. For more information, visit: http://www.microchip.com/MXT1665T_Main7302
