Speeding up data transfer with latest USB Type-C connector; ideal for space-constrained applications

Rugged connector and component manufacturer Bulgin has launched a new C-Type USB 3.0 connector, that combines field-proven reliability with data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gb/s.

The new 4000 Series C-Type connector supports USB 3.1 Gen 2, and is also backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 devices.

USB Type-C is rapidly gaining in popularity, and has been adopted by hundreds of vendors. The USB Type-C connector is reversible and can be connected either way up, making it more convenient and easy to use.

Christian Taylor, Engineering Team Leader at Bulgin said: “USB has become near-ubiquitous, and the newer USB Type-C is becoming the version of choice for many applications – combining super-fast speeds with convenience and compactness. The new 4000 Series C-Type connector means that our customers can now take advantage of the latest technology, with the proven Bulgin ruggedness they have to come to rely on.”

Type-C is much more compact than the existing Type-A version, and is about the size of existing micro-USB connectors – making it ideal for space-constrained applications. It can also provide more power, up to 100W, so can support a wider range of devices, and achieve faster charging.

Tested to IP69K and IP68, the 4000 Series C-Type connector provides protection against dirt and water ingress: fully submersed up to two weeks at 10m, and resistant to high pressure, high-temperature water jets. It also offers an extended operating temperature range from –40ºC to +80ºC. This means that the connector is well-suited for outdoor installations and harsh environments, including underground.
