Govt Explores Scope for Defence Testing Labs in Uttarakhand

State government representatives VS Rawat (Defence Manufacturing Coordinator), SIIDCUL Director (Planning) Lokesh Sharma and Shivangi Singh met the Ordnance Factory, Dehradun (OFD) General Manager PK Dixit and others.

Rawat spoke about the unavailability of testing labs in India specifically for the defence sector and the considerable cost of getting testing done abroad.

Dixit said that OFD is in the process of getting a NABL accredited lab and that the audits have been completed. He further appreciated the initiative of the Uttarakhand government stating that ‘Make in Uttarakhand’ should be a reality soon. Stating that transfer of technology is often expensive he stressed the use of local resources.

Rawat informed that the government is working to get a testing lab in Uttarakhand. He also informed that SIIDCUL is coming up with an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) in Kashipur. He further informed that vendors in Uttarakhand are keen to participate in the defence sector and requested that they seek the necessary support and guidance of OFD.

Sharma said that SIIDCUL has planned a Plastic Park in Sitarganj Phase-II with a CIPET facility wherein the MIL grade testing can also be incorporated.
