Now no more Sad faces when your Smartphone Screen get a crack

It is really devastating when your smartphone accidentally (in most of the cases) get a crack and the only option left is to replace the screen. Smartphones are the hot products worldwide with almost 1.5 billion purchased last year. Generally, a smart phone is made up of silicon and other compounds which are expensive and break easily so in order to avoid this Dr. Elton Santos from Queen’s University working with a team of top-notch scientists from different universities to create the hybrid devices.

While working Team observed that by combining C60 semiconducting molecule with graphene and Hbn, the layered material,l they could come up with a new revolutionize material. Any Smart devices made up of this combination will provide additional and different features which are not possible with natural materials. hBN provides stability, electronic compatibility, and isolation charge to graphene while C60 can transform sunlight into electricity. The combination of these compounds is due to the wander walls forces. According to Dr Elton, this miracle material has similar physical properties like silicon but it has improved chemical stability, flexibility and lightness would be much less likely to break.

This coming material will use less power than usual devices due to its unique architecture which in turn provide improved battery life and less electric shocks. Dr Santos further explains that the model has passed its tests of several assumptions and predictions while starting the experiments. This finding has open paths for new materials but one issue which is on the way to bring it into the real industry is Band gap. Graphene and the new material architecture is lacking a ‘band gap’, which is the key to the on-off switching operations performed by electronic devices. Though the team has discovered the solution — transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) as they are chemically stable, have a large source of production and a bad gap which is moreover similar to silicon. By incorporating all these findings and results team has created a template and will add on additional features with TMDs.
